SUN BALM FAQ'S
What is SPF and how does it work?
Great question!
SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor, and it indicates how long a sunscreen protects your skin from UVB rays—the main cause of sunburn.
If your skin would normally start to burn after 10 minutes in the sun without protection, then using an SPF 30 product (for example) means:
10 minutes x SPF 30 = 300 total minutes (or 5 hours) of theoretical protection.
BUT—
In real-life conditions (sweating, swimming, rubbing, heat, etc.), sunscreen doesn’t last that long. Even high-SPF products break down or wear off.
Despite the SPF rating, dermatologists and sunscreen manufacturers recommend reapplying every 2 hours—and immediately after swimming, sweating, or towel drying.
So, even with a high SPF product, reapplication every 2 hours is the safe and effective rule.
Does Sun Balm have an SPF rating?
Our Sun Balm is made with natural ingredients known to offer sun protection, with estimated SPF values ranging from SPF 54–105 when combined. However, please note that Sun Balm has not been officially tested for SPF rating.
Some of our customers use Sun Balm on its own, while others layer it under their favorite SPF-rated sunscreen for extra protection. Many also reach for it after sun exposure to soothe, repair and replenish their skin.
How you use it is up to you—your skin, your call.

Is Sun Balm safe for sensitive skin?
All of the ingredients are natural and gentle. That being said, it's advisable to perform a patch test on a small area of skin to check for any adverse reactions, especially if you have sensitive skin.
Can I use Sun Balm all over my body?
Yep! Wherever your skin has been sun-kissed.
How often should I apply the Sun Balm?
Dermatologists and sunscreen manufacturers recommend reapplying every 2 hours—and immediately after swimming, sweating, or towel drying.
Is it vegan-friendly? Is it cruelty-free?
It is not Vegan-friendly. We use Beeswax in this formula.
It is cruelty-free. It has only been tested on willing, happy humans.
What's the shelf life? Do I have to refrigerate Sun Balm?
Our Sun Balm is anhydrous—meaning it's made of oils and oil friendly ingredients; no water is in this formula. So that means we don't need a broad spectrum preservative in this formula. But we do add Tocopherol, also known as Vitamin E. It's anti-oxidant properties extend the shelf life of Sun Balm up to a year. No, you don't need to refrigerate it.
